Case study: Assessing ventilation for infection control

The project

A major Australian ASX-listed company retained Prezant to assess a large CBD building for adequacy of ventilation and risk of infection with airborne viruses such as SARS-COV2.

While the building was recently completed to a high standard, and was properly designed and commissioned, several deficiencies in the ventilation system operation were identified, resulting in far less ventilation than the original design intent, and presenting an unacceptable risk of infection for even short occupancy periods in certain rooms.

The analysis conducted by Prezant prioritised the areas with greatest deficiencies, permitting a structured rectification.

The outcome

The client was able to rapidly address the ventilation issues identified, and minimise risk to critical staff during a time of high communicable disease transmission. This kept the staff safe, minimised potential disruption to critical aspects of the business, and ensured the company was discharging its duty of care.
